In keeping with the “Blue Lights for Winter Nights” theme for the month of February in Saxtons River, The River Artisans Cooperative will have a Blue Denim Class on Sunday, February 23 from 1:30-4 p.m. Led by Pat Bellows, a fiber artist and quilter, the class will cater to people who have some, but not necessarily extensive, sewing ability, and an interest in re-purposing discarded jeans.
Participants can choose from a number of simple projects which are on display at River Artisans, and all of which can be made by cutting up and re-forming a pair of blue jeans. Several styles of bags will be available to serve as examples, as well as a simple luggage tag or key ring, a baby’s bib and placemat. There will be several sewing machines available to use, and some jeans to cut up, but people are welcome to bring their own discarded jeans and buttons or trims that they may want to use to embellish their work. Items can then be decorated by using applique, fusing, or surface fabric paint.
Class fee is $20.
To register, or get more information on the class, stop by River Artisans Cooperative at 26-B Main Street in Saxons River or call 802-869-2099 during shop hours, 12-5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.–3 p.m. on weekends.
