Moving to Saxtons River in 1964, as a young mother Pat gave many years of service to local clubs, and church committees and eventually began working at the US Postal Service. After Pat retired as Postmaster in Saxtons River she began working at the Country Treasures Quilt Shop in Chester, VT, and began taking classes in quilting.
Pat learned to sew from her mother and in homemaking classes at school. She made clothes for her young boys and later especially enjoyed making doll’s outfits for her granddaughters. Today her grand daughters have all grown and but she pursues her sewing hobby by keeping the Saxtons River Artisans Cooperative filled with her colorful arrays of quilts and charming infant and doll outfits. “It’s nice to have a hobby and I enjoy making objects out of fabric. When something of mine is sold, my commission from that sale gives me inspiration (and cash) to continue. Most of my items are one of a kind. I may use the same pattern, but I use different fabrics and sometimes alter a pattern to make something a little different.”
The Saxtons River Artisans Cooperative is located in the center of Saxtons River on Main Street, across from the Saxtons River Inn. The shop displays the work of about 50 local artisans and new members are always welcome.
